Evolving legislation and harmonization of practices across European jurisdictions has led to a streamlining and¾homogenisation¾of restructuring practices across the continent, according to experts at the Turnaround Management Associationês (TMA¾Europe) Annual Conference in Stockholm on 11-12 June.
Meanwhile, the abundance of affordable liquidity has allowed some distressed companies to stay afloat for the time being, but weak fundamentals could take their toll as soon as the cheap money becomes scarce, with energy and retail sectors particularly earmarked for difficult times ahead, several participants said.
The main question is whether a business has a reason to exist, but given the abundance of money in the capital markets, some may want to kick the can down the road and leave it to later, said Teresa Kohl, director at¾SSG Capital Advisors.
